We need 5,000 dozen (yes, 60,000) homemade cookies! Cookies, distributed liberally to the prison residents during the weekend, are a tangible expression of God's overflowing love for his children and the presence of that love in Christian people everywhere. |
ACCEPTABLE TYPES OF COOKIES: Chocolate Chip, Peanut Butter, Oatmeal, Ginger, Molasses, & Sugar. |
SIZE: Regular cookie size. Do not make thin, crispy cookies as they break easily. |
DECORATION: DON'T! Do not use any icing, sugar, or any other type of coating on the outside of the cookie. |
PACKAGING: Let cookies cool completely before packaging. Warm cookies tend to stick together in a large mass and cannot be used. Bag them in QUART size zip-lock freezer bags, one (1) dozen to each bag. Label each bag with the type of cookies in it. Freeze all cookies if they cannot be taken to the cookie coordinator quickly. |
PLEASE FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS IN ORDER TO AVOID WASTE OR REJECTION BY THE PRISON |
You may write 42 letters of support and encouragement, one for each candidate, which will be distributed to them during the weekend. Simply address your letter Dear Brother in Christ. Be assured that a letter to a prison inmate from a complete stranger who cared enough to take time for them is one of the most powerful expressions of love they will ever receive. Letters should be on plain white paper, with pen or pencil. Do not use water colors, paints, stickers, glue or glitter. Sign only your first name, do not include your home address. Letters from young children are especially powerful! Have them sign their first name and their age. |
Posters or banners are another visible sign of agape love and encouragement. These are good expressions of support from groups such as a Sunday School class or Bible Study Group. We can also use placemats made of 11x14 white paper and decorated with messages or drawings. As with the letters, please do not use glue, glitter, paints or stickers. |

The closing service for Kairos #36 at Darrington will be at 3:00 PM on Sunday, Oct. 9th. This service is open for anyone (i.e. men and women, over the age of 18). To attend, you must fill out the Closing Application form. You will find this closing service to be one of the most powerful worship experiences you will ever attend and you will receive a double blessing both from the experience and from the gift your attendance provides to the residents. The state at some level reviews the names and who you are if you apply for closing. |

Kairos of Texas is a non-profit ministry supported completely by donations. Kairos weekends cost approximately $125 per resident candidate. Funds raised are used to provide housing for team members, food which is prepared for the residents during the weekend and the materials needed to support the ministry. Any level of financial support is welcome and useful. Make checks payable to Kairos of Texas and indicate it is for the Darrington Kairos. |
